The Final Countdown!

It’s been a busy week here at Magpie HQ (my desk)! What with a beautiful custom order to work on, making belated house warming gifts for friends and promoting my fund raising auction for Greenpeace I haven’t had much time for blogging.

There are only 24 hours left to place your bids, people!  I’m really pleased that the Rainbow Collection has attracted so much interest thus far and would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who has placed a bid or shared a link to the auction. The auction page has received hundreds of views and even had interest from the other side of the globe! I’m really so grateful for everyone’s contributions, thank you so much 🙂

Facebook TV Ad – Unfriend Coal!

Do you use Facebook? Chances are that as you’re here on the interwebs that you probably do, but even if you don’t why not take a quick look at this new Facebook TV Ad that is about to go live in Facebook’s home town. This ad has been put together by a wonderful team of lovely humans who are trying to convince Facebook to ‘unfriend’ coal and power their social network by more socially responsible means (like renewable energy) by Earth Day, April 22nd.

With less than 25 days to go, will Facebook step up? To help keep the pressure on  please share the video with as many people as possible. Together we can make Facebook  unfriend coal 🙂

Auction Update

My ebay auction to raise funds for the new Rainbow Warrior ends on Friday so get those bids in! After some tense to-ing and fro-ing the fabulous Kirsty has regained her position as the winning bidder but anything could happen! CLICK HERE for the auction and to place your bid 🙂

9 Bids! Do I Hear 10?

Wow! After just 24 hours the auction of my Rainbow Collection has had 9 bids! 😀 Thank you to everyone who has bid so far with especially huge thanks to the fabulous Kirsty who is currently the winning bidder. 🙂

Please help if you can either by bidding on ebay or sharing the link on your travels around Internetland. Tell your friends, tweet a random celebrity and shamelessly beg for an RT, paint the url onto your naked torso and spend the next 2 hours posing as a human statue (then upload it to youtube!) Please do whatever you can to help raise some much needed funds for a much needed cause 🙂

We are the Rainbow Warriors.

Rainbow Collection Auction for Greenpeace

She’s been bombed, shot at and rammed and now she needs your help. After 21 years as a Greenpeace ship the current Rainbow Warrior is heading for retirement and Greenpeace needs your help to replace her.

I mentioned back in February why the Rainbow Warrior is so important to me, and it is for these very good reasons that it gives me great joy to finally be able to bring you my Rainbow Collection! These five, specially designed tea light holders are being auctioned on ebay to raise funds for this incredibly worth while cause.

The set includes:

  • Red – illustrating the passion with which Greenpeace defends our planet.
  • Yellow/Orange – representing the sunny skies over our fragile Earth.
  • Green – featuring the symbol of the dove of peace which adorns the Rainbow Warrior.
  • Blue – the glistening oceans that the Greenpeace fleet is charged to defend.
  • Purple – represents the nobility of the causes that Greenpeace stands for.

You Can’t Tease A Rainbow!

Back in February I mentioned in this post that I was putting together a ‘Rainbow Collection’ to raise funds for the new Rainbow Warrior. Well I am very pleased to say that the collection is now complete! I won’t be revealing it just yet as there are still some details to finalise but I thought it only right that my loyal subscribers get a sneaky peek at what is to come 🙂

So here is your teaser, something colourful this way comes…

I am over the moon with how beautifully the collection has come together and I can hardly wait to get it moving and raising some funds! More on this as it happens, I promise 😉

In the meantime you may find some colourful clues if you hunt around my Etsy shop and there will be more sneak peeks for those who follow me on Facebook too 😉

Dinosaurs + Plates = 1983

What is the first thing that springs to mind when you think of 1983? Shoulder pads? Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’? My Little Pony? Well, according to the artisans of Wedgwood nothing says 1983 quite like dinosaurs!

Whilst trawling for vintage goodies I was genuinely stunned by the discovery of this Wedgwood calendar plate known as the The Age of Reptiles plate;

As you can see it has a dinosaur for every month of the year, all of which are listed on the reverse:

What a find! It is so unusual and quirky, I couldn’t possibly leave it there, all alone, nothing but it’s gift box and leaflet for company! What can I say, I’m attracted to oddness 😀

Nocturnal Whirlpool Tea Light Holder Listed on Etsy

Last night I listed my latest tea light holder in my Etsy shop. It too was inspired by waves on the beach, but at night this time. This is definitely one of my favourite pieces so far! To get this effect I produced what is know as a ‘Skinner Blend’ (this is where two or more colours are blended together to create a blend running through one colour/shade  to another) in shades of aquamarine and cobalt blue with just a hint of sparkle, reminiscent of the foaming waves crashing to the shore whilst the ocean glints in the moonlight. It has a gorgeous, dreamy feel to it which I just love 🙂

This, along with my other creations, can be found in my Etsy Store.
